Upon an target’s first glance at the hourglass, they must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw against its seductive pull, with a DC of 18. Failure to resist its charm results in the target being utterly fixated on watching the sands move through the narrow neck, unable to tear their eyes away even as time slips by unnoticed.
While under the spell of this hourglass, individuals are in a near-trance-like state and remain oblivious to their prolonged gaze. The trance can be broken only when the line of sight is physically obstructed or if the person sustains physical harm. Upon sustaining physical harm, the target must make another wisdom saving throw to end the effect. Upon cessation of the effect, whether by interruption or expiration, the target is immune to this hourglass’s allure for the next 24 hours.
The hourglass typically operates for one full hour before needing to be reset. However, its operation can be extended indefinitely by gently rotating it at regular intervals—a turn approximately every 59 minutes is recommended to maintain the flow of time within its glassy confines.
The person who rotates the hourglass makes the save at disadvantage.
