Session starts Moonblossom 17th 800av 12:30AM.
- The group discusses the timeline of events, confirming that the interrogation lasted six hours and the visit to the blacksmith happened around 9:30 PM.
- They search the blacksmith’s shop for valuables and hidden information. They find a ledger showing the blacksmith was in massive debt—112,000 gold owed to someone named Ralph and a total debt of about 200,000 gold.
- Upon further investigation, they confirm the handwriting in the ledger matches the blacksmith’s, but some entries were written by someone else.
- They find a hidden compartment containing a single dagger, which appears to be of decent craftsmanship but not magical. The base of the dagger has an inscription in small print that they cannot read.
- Another hidden compartment is discovered in the back room, containing a pouch with exactly 400 gold. They split it evenly, with each receiving 200 gold.
- One member decides to take the blacksmith’s remains in a bag of holding to confront his debtors.
- The group splits up:
- One member goes to visit Ralph to negotiate or intimidate him.
- Another returns to the inn to settle things with the widow.
- The visit to Ralph’s location reveals it to be a warehouse guarded by armed individuals. The member observes from a window before knocking on a side door.
- A female tiefling answers, Serenity, and after some back-and-forth, she fetches a dragonborn who appears to be in charge.
- After an intense conversation involving intimidation, the member learns that “Ralph” is just a pseudonym used by the organization to track who leaks information.
- The blacksmith had borrowed over 500,000 gold over time, repaying most but still owing a substantial sum (the 112,000 gold).
- It is revealed that the blacksmith was smuggling something across the border from Caldera, but the organization was unaware of the exact goods. They had assumed it was drugs.
- The member forces the organization into submission, making them pledge loyalty under threat of death. Yinlare, now a mob boss, orders them to investigate what the blacksmith was smuggling.
- Yinlare decides to head to another person on the list, his parents who live to the north of town an hour away.
- Meanwhile, at the inn, the other member presents the blacksmith’s ring and 100 gold to his widow. She feigns neutrality about his death but subtly reveals relief.
- They discuss options to forge a divorce document for her to take full ownership of his belongings while excluding any outstanding debts.
- Concern arises about potential trouble from some guards who had business dealings with the blacksmith. The widow confirms that guards regularly bought weapons or other items from him.
- To cover their tracks, they consider framing the blacksmith posthumously for a crime, but struggle to find a viable option.
- A rude inn guest catches their attention, and they contemplate whether to use him as a scapegoat or eliminate him for convenience. Katrina Clars, the wife of the blacksmith, tells the party that that man is in cahoots with her husband.
- After securing permission from the widow (and compensating for possible damages), one of them proceeds toward the guest’s room, preparing for another confrontation.
- Aerendyl tortures the man, unnamed Bertro Breman, finding out that he got weapons, armor, and money form the blacksmith in exchange for transporting goods to other cities. He only looked the once time but saw a dark elf child in the box. To get the information, Aerendyl promises not to kill the man.
- Yinlare, now at his parent house, talks his way in. He tells the parents that he is being held for lack of payment on other loans and is in need of payment. After much back and forth, it is revealed that the father would prefer it if the man was involved in an accident that would allow him to claim life insurance.
- Yinlare agrees to make that happen and in return is provided a house in Amerihya, specifically in Niam.
- Yinlare makes his way to the inn, using the Orb of Zoom in the progress.
- When he arrives, he gives Katrina Clars the deed to the house in Amerihya, telling her to live there. He then goes to the room where Aerendyl is questioning the man.
- Aerendyl tells Yinlare to kill the man and they swiftly do.
- Finally, while Aerendyl taking a long rest, Yinlare takes the body of the man Aerendyl tortured and frames Katrina Clars for his murder at his blacksmith shop and setup a note claiming he ran away.
Session ends Moonblossom 18th 800av 6:00AM.
