Summary

Classes: Wizard / Elf Race

Source: Homebrew

You imbue a piece of paper with a message or an image, and a whisper of foliage magic. As you complete the incantation, the size of the paper is limited to the spell level (1st for a standard note, 2nd for a larger note, etc.). The original paper dissolves into a shimmering mist upon completion of the spell, indicating that the magic is now latent within the messenger leaf.

The magic embedded within the leaf remains dormant until the intended recipient comes within 15 feet of a plant with leaves. Upon entering this range, the magical energy is activated, transforming the leaf into an identical piece of paper with your message in the specified size. The recipient must be someone who you know well. The transformed paper then gently floats away from the plant, drifting toward the recipient until it lands near them. The paper will not move if the recipient does not pick it up; it simply remains where it lands for them to find.

At Higher Levels:

  • You can upcast this spell as a ritual, in doing so, the time it takes is multiplied exponentially.

    • level 1 - 10 min

    • level 2 - 20 min

    • level 3 - 40 min

    • level 4 - 80 min

  • 1st Level: The messenger leaf can transmit a single word to the intended recipient when they come within range of a plant with leaves. No other content or items can accompany this message.

  • 2nd Level: The messenger leaf can convey either one sentence or a basic image. The spell allows for a more detailed message, and the recipient can also experience a simple visual or auditory illusion alongside the message.

  • 3rd Level: The messenger leaf can deliver up to a paragraph of text or any level of complexity in an image. The recipient may receive a more complex visual or auditory illusion and can carry and receive other pieces of complext paper with the spell, including spell scrolls.

  • 4th Level: The messenger leaf has no limitations on the number of words it can carry, nor does it limit the complexity of images or objects that can be included. The recipient can receive unlimited words, complex images, and even other complext paper items like spell scrolls. The messenger leaf can send these items when the recipient is within range of a plant with leaves.

Additional Guidelines:

  • The messenger leaf and the original paper must both be of a material that can be magically transformed by the spell.

  • The message cannot carry any magical effects other than those explicitly stated in the higher-level descriptions, including the illusionary components.

  • If the recipient is within range of another plant with leaves when they receive the message, the spell can also be activated from that plant.

  • The spell can only be sent to a known person who is currently within 15 feet of a plant with leaves.

Learning

  • Any wizard can learn this spell

  • High elves innately learn this, provided they have someone to teach them or have a spell scroll. When learning from a spell scroll, it takes one hour. The spell is added like normal to your spell list.
