Session ends Moonblossom 18th 800av 12PM.

  • Aragorn receives a message (via Sending spell) that his dagger will take another six days to be ready.
  • Aragorn contemplates robbing the blacksmith but gets bad vibes from the idea (Insight check 19).
  • Around noon, Shain continues his tutoring, making the student balance magic studies with other subjects.
  • The student picks up on magic quickly, able to recite and understand the concepts well.
  • Shain decides to test if the student has a mischievous streak before introducing practical magic.
  • He teaches her Mage Hand; she struggles initially but masters it after several attempts.
  • Shain notices (Perception check 25) that her magic use is stronger than expected for a beginner.
  • Shain checks in with Aragorn, who is assigned to train the student in swordplay.
  • Aragorn initially gives the student a longsword but switches to a wooden sword when she struggles with the weight.
  • Aragorn focuses on endurance training rather than aggressive combat.
  • After training, the student admits she just wants to make things “go boom.”
  • Shain and Aragorn discuss their plan: Shain will continue tutoring while Aragorn teaches swordplay.
  • Shain visits the blacksmith to discuss the dagger delay; he is informed that increased bandit activity has disrupted metal shipments.
  • Shain acknowledges the delay and does not push further.
  • At 6 a.m., Cedric (the butler) informs them that the employer is unhappy because the student has been casting magic all night.
  • Shain and Aragorn pretend to take the warning seriously.
  • Shain devises a dramatic scare tactic: he plans to stage a magical “accident” to deter the student from magic.
  • Later, Shain begins casting multiple Sapping Sting spells into the air.
  • After five casts, he begins involuntarily phasing in and out of existence, causing multiple versions of himself to appear.
  • The clones all cast Sapping Sting simultaneously, creating a massive display of green energy.
  • Shain collapses, exhausted, with all spell slots depleted.
  • The student, initially horrified, becomes excited and asks how he did that.
  • Aragorn checks Shain’s pulse and feigns grave concern.
  • Aragorn rolls a deception check (natural 20), convincing the student that Shain is dead.
  • The student panics and runs to her father, begging for a cleric.
  • Aragorn escalates the deception by stabbing himself with two daggers (taking 6 damage) to make it appear that Shain went mad from magic.
  • The father, instead of seeking a cleric, dismisses magic as dangerous and unreliable.
  • The student sneaks back later with a stolen coin pouch, wanting to continue learning magic in secret.
  • Shain reveals himself (having polymorphed into a white crow) and tells her stealing is wrong but agrees to teach her.
  • They devise a plan for secret nighttime lessons using Glyph of Warding on a dummy to create an illusion of her presence.
  • Over the next few days, Shain ramps up her magic education, matching her learning pace.
  • Shain continues teaching the student magic in secret, increasing the complexity of her lessons each night.
  • During the day, he rests and prepares, ensuring he has spell slots available.
  • Aerendyl arrives in town via a giant eagle, revealing that he has taken over a criminal organization called the Fingers Discount. He shows Shain a contract he found in the organization’s safe, which has a dark aura. Shain uses Temporal Glimpse on the contract, instead of showing him a glimpse in time, he is pulled into a subspace where an entity talks to him. The mysterious entity named Vezithor, who warns him to stay out of his business. ^f77ac5
    • Shain asks the entity about Vexmortis, but doesnt get a proper response. However, since Vezithor was silent for a couple seconds before answering, it is unclear if he is involved or not.
  • Shain’s fingers turn black after the encounter, and he realizes that the girl he’s tutoring has a similar dark aura as his fingers when casting magic. Shain, Aragorn, and Aerendyl discuss the implications and decide to investigate further.
  • Aerendyl reveals that the Queen of Luminevia has been assassinated, and her advisor, Tremola Enlorare has taken power. Shain sends a Sending message to Aerendyl’s fiancĂ©e, warning her not to return to Luminevia due to the political instability.
  • The group visits the new headquarters of The Fingers Discount, where Aerendyl’s underling provides them with ledgers detailing the organization’s debts, including 150 gold owed by the local blacksmith. Shain requests spell scrolls, but the underling says it will take time to gather them.
  • Shain copies the mysterious contract into his spellbook, despite the supposed risks. The group prepares to meet the girl again, but when they arrive at her house, they see her father taking a wooden doll (a decoy Shain created) into the cellar and the girl nowhere to be found. The session ends with this cliffhanger.

Session ends Moonblossom 24th 800av 8:30PM.
